Coy Clement,
president of clementDIRECT, has worked with products from electronics to
apparel and with entrepreneurial companies as well as corporations. His
background spans all major functional areas – strategic planning,
database marketing, merchandising, catalog creative, as well as mergers
and acquisitions. He has been a leader in the use of catalogs and
direct marketing to support multi-channel businesses, including retail.
Recent clients include
Procter & Gamble, Mrs. Fields, National Wildlife Federation, National Geographic, LEGO,
Hale Groves, J. Crew, Gardener’s Supply Company, The Vermont Country
Store, Smith + Noble, Disney Direct, Cushman's, Wyeth Consumer
Healthcare, Hewlett-Packard, Yankelovich Partners and many others.
Before starting his
consulting practice in 2000, Clement spent more than 25 years in senior
level direct marketing positions. He founded Paragon Holdings in 1996
and served on its Board of Directors until its sale in 2005. Paragon
Holdings owned The Paragon (specialty gifts) and Bits & Pieces (puzzles,
games and gifts).
He was Executive
Vice-President at Hanover Direct. In that position, he was responsible
for a $650 million portfolio of businesses including Domestications, The
Company Store, Gumps and Colonial Garden Kitchens, Kitchen & Home,
Improvements and Safety Zone.
As President of
Leichtung Workshops, he helped that tool catalog successfully emerge
from a failed leveraged buyout. While at Leichtung, he founded the home
repair and maintenance catalog Improvements and arranged the sale
of both businesses to Hanover Direct.
Coy was Vice-President
of Direct Marketing at Eddie Bauer, helping to transform the company
from a rugged outdoor outfitter to a leader in casual clothing and
sportswear. He oversaw major improvements in database marketing,
catalog creative and supervised the development of spin-off catalogs.
He also worked extensively to understand and harness the power of
catalog marketing for Bauer’s stores.
Clement serves on the
Board of Directors of PRIMIS Marketing, a marketing services provider. He previously served
on the Boards of The Vermont Country Store, Dynamic Resource Group,
Paragon Holdings, The Popcorn Factory, the New England Mail Order Association and is past
Chairman of the DMA Ethics Operating Committee and a founding Board
member of the DMA Catalog Council.
He is a frequent speaker at direct marketing conferences and events and
